It was never commercially marketed as a pharmaceutical product but gained attention for its strong anabolic characteristics.

Structurally, it differs from testosterone by having a double bond at the 1(2) position rather than the 4(5) position in the A ring. This slight modification contributes to its unique activity profile. It was previously available for legal online purchase in the United States until 2005, when it became classified as a Schedule III controlled substance.
